Music Education Assistance Project, Inc.

The Music Education Assistance Project's (MEAP) mission is to provide opportunities for students attending public schools in northern Oregon and southwest Washington to develop their music capabilities through private lessons and in-school master classes and performances given by local music professionals.
"Getting this scholarship allowed me to enjoy music instead of worrying about how I'm going to pay for it. Also, it felt nice to know that someone cared about my music education"
....Bona Kimm
"...I don't know where I would be without the scholarship and the help of my teachers. The opportunity of receiving the scholarship has really made me a better player in all aspects and I couldn't be more grateful.".....Gabriela Saldana
Here is a summary of MEAP's grant activities:
Applicants for the study grant program (private lessons) submit applications in November of each year. These include, in addition to the application form, a personal letter, a letter of recommendation from their school band or orchestra director, evidence of financial need, and a recording of their recent playing. Due to increasingly challenging family financial conditions, there are more and more students hoping to resume or begin lessons, but without the necessary family financial help.?>The scholarship recipients receive one-on-one instruction from a professional teacher during the school year. Students range in ability from intermediate to advanced and the program culminates in a group recital open to the public at no charge. For 2009/2010 nine students were awarded scholarships for a total amount of $2,900. We were pleased that one of our repeat scholarship recipients was accepted at the Julliard Music School with a full scholarship in fall, 2010.?>ML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />Applicants for the project grant program (in-school programs) submit detailed applications in February for projects to take place later in the Spring. School District funds are often available to assist with the entire program cost. This year's grants provide funding for a program creating new music compositions, a school furlough day band camp for students at eight schools, chamber music experiences at two middle schools, and a recording project. Funds of over $4,000 have been made available through MEAP. |
Meap is associated with Local 99 of theMusicians Union as a separate 501 C(3)charitable organization and has aseparate board. |
